## 2025: delimitation and the new council

Kerala redrew local body wards before the 2025 polls. Statewide, the total number of wards rose from 21,900 to 23,612, and grama panchayat wards from 15,962 to 17,337, according to Wikipedia; the exercise was headed by State Election Commissioner A. Shajahan and based on the 2011 Census. Edathala’s website says the panchayat now has **24 wards** under the Delimitation Commission’s final order.

Ernakulam district voted in the **first phase on 9 December 2025**, and results came on **13 December 2025**. Statewide, the UDF won 505 grama panchayats, the LDF 340 and the NDA 26, with 64 tied, and turnout was 73.69%, Wikipedia records.

The panchayat’s list of elected representatives for the new council names **A. A. Mayin** (ward 23, Nellikkathu Kadu) as president and **Mahila V. K.** (ward 5, Nalam Mile) as vice-president. Standing committee chairs listed are P. D. Pradeep Kumar (welfare), K. M. Shamsuddin (development) and Jasmin Muhammed (health and education).

> The panchayat’s website does not show party affiliations, and we could not open a ward-wise result table from the State Election Commission, so this page does not say which front controls the council or give 2020 seat totals.

## Why it matters near the NAD signal

Depending on which side of the boundary a house stands, its residents deal with Edathala panchayat or Kalamassery municipality for certificates, building permits and waste collection. If you stay at Ashraf Gents Hostel and need a local document, ask on the call which office applies to the address. Compare with the [Kalamassery municipal results](https://ashrafgentspghostel.adserr.com/kalamassery-local-body-elections-2020-2025/) and see the [Kalamassery history archive](https://ashrafgentspghostel.adserr.com/kalamassery-history-archive/).
