Kalamassery in 2026 So Far: January to October

The first nine months of 2026 brought several long-running Kalamassery projects to visible milestones: a tender for the missing HMT–NAD road link in January, the opening of the Cochin Cancer Research Centre’s new building in February, later metro hours from mid-February, and the arrival of all the rails for the Pink Line in September. In between, Kerala elected a new assembly. This is a running record as of early October 2026.

After more than two decades in which the Seaport–Airport Road ended at HMT, Onmanorama reported on 22 January 2026 that a tender had been invited for the 2.7 km link from HMT towards the Naval Armament Depot, at about ₹17.22 crore with a 12-month completion period. The state had paid for HMT and NAD land after Supreme Court directions. A February 2026 report expected the tender process to finish and work to begin around March. As of early October we found no report of the link opening. See the road’s history.

February: a cancer centre and later trains

On 9 February 2026 the Chief Minister inaugurated the Cochin Cancer Research Centre’s new building on the Medical College campus: nine storeys, about 6.3 lakh sq ft on 12.63 acres, twelve operation theatres and, by INKEL’s account, 451 beds. The opening came a year after the date expected in late 2024; the full story is in building the CCRC.

A week later the metro lengthened its day. Onmanorama reported that from 15 February 2026 the last departures from the terminal stations moved to 11 pm, citing rising ridership, with extra early trains for Sivarathri at Aluva. The report also noted that the state Cabinet had approved a loan for the Pink Line the previous day; Wikipedia identifies the lender as the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank. On 22 July 2026 KMRL added further peak-hour trains.

April–May: the assembly election

Kerala voted on 9 April 2026, and results were declared on 4 May 2026. According to Wikipedia, the UDF won 102 of 140 seats, the LDF 35 and the NDA 3, and V. D. Satheesan of the INC became Chief Minister.

Projects still in progress

  • Pink Line: Wikipedia records that targets of June and December 2026 were postponed; by 22 September all rails had arrived and commissioning was targeted for August 2027 (timeline).
  • Adani Logistics Park: under construction since the August 2025 groundbreaking; we found no confirmed opening date (land history).
  • Judicial City: we found no report, up to early October 2026, of the Supreme Court lifting its status-quo order on the 27 acres (proposal history).
  • Metro Phase III: KMRL submitted a detailed project report for the Aluva–airport–Angamaly extension on 1 September 2026, according to Wikipedia.

This page covers events up to early October 2026. It will be out of date quickly; check current news for anything marked as a target.

Why 2026 matters near the NAD signal

Two of the year’s milestones, the CCRC building and the HMT–NAD road tender, are within a short distance of the NAD Road signal. For anyone living there — including the men at Ashraf Gents Hostel on NAD Road — they promise more hospital jobs and visitors now, and a different traffic pattern once the link opens. The previous year is in Kalamassery in 2025; the archive hub links everything else.
