Nippon Kerala Centre: Halls, Rooms, Events and ASA Kerala Membership

The Nippon Kerala Centre (NKC) in Kalamassery is more than a classroom. ASA Kerala describes it as a residential training complex modelled on AOTS’s centres in Japan, with rooms, halls, classrooms, offices and a dining hall under one roof. It is also the meeting point for Kerala’s Japan-trained professionals. This page covers what is inside, what happens there and what membership costs.

Why the building exists

ASA Kerala says a senior member, Edgar Morris, first proposed an integrated residential training complex about 15 years ago. He had seen AOTS’s centres in Tokyo, Yokohama and Osaka, where trainees sleep, eat and study in one building, which keeps multi-day programmes cheap and simple. NKC follows that model and is offered to institutions and companies across India for their own training. The association calls the architecture Japanese-inspired. Visitors notice a red torii gate, a Zen garden, a tatami room and sakura planting.
