What the park is

KINFRA – the Kerala Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation – builds and runs industrial parks across the state. Its Kalamassery Hi-Tech Park covers about 243 acres. KINFRA describes its focus as hi-tech, non-polluting industry, and lists a biotechnology incubation centre, an IT/ITES special economic zone, an electronics SEZ and a gem and jewellery park among its facilities. The park was among the winners of FICCI’s Swachh Industry Park awards in 2024, according to KINFRA.

Do not expect one glass tower like Infopark. It is a campus of separate plots and buildings – some company-owned, some shared incubation space – connected by internal roads.

Who you will find inside

  • Kerala Startup Mission’s Technology Innovation Zone (TIZ) – about 13.5 acres with the Integrated Startup Complex, opened in January 2019. It includes Maker Village (an electronics hardware incubator), BioNest (life sciences, run with RGCB), BRIC (cancer-care and biomedical solutions) and centres of excellence announced with industry partners. Our KSUM founders’ guide goes deeper.
  • Companies in the SEZs and plots – electronics, IT/ITES, biotech and other units. The mix changes as leases end and new firms arrive; KINFRA publishes its own lists.
  • NUALS – the National University of Advanced Legal Studies has a 10-acre campus inside the park. Students should read PG for men near NUALS.
  • Neighbours just outside – the Government Medical College, the Cochin Cancer Research Centre, HMT and the site of the Adani Logistics Park.

Getting in and out

The park is not on the metro line. Kalamassery and Cochin University metro stations are on NH 544, so most people finish the journey by auto, bus, a colleague’s bike or their own two-wheeler. The road towards the park and the Medical College is often listed on maps as the Kinfra–Medical College Road – see our Medical College Road guide and the HMT Junction guide for the junctions you will pass through.

Food inside the park is limited to canteens and small outlets, so many people eat at HMT Junction or near the Medical College. Our places to eat near NAD Road and HMT Junction lists some options.

Founders and employees have different needs

Employees in established companies want a predictable commute and a quiet room. Founders and early startup staff want the lowest possible fixed cost, a place to work late, and flexibility to leave if the money runs out. Interns need something for two or three months – see summer internships in Kalamassery.

In all three cases, living within a short ride of the park cuts the time and money you lose each day. Living in Kakkanad or the city may look more lively, but the daily ride across Edappally traffic adds up – compare in Kakkanad or Kalamassery?

Your first week at a park job

  1. Find out which building and gate you report to – the park is large and plots are spread out, and "KINFRA" alone is not enough for an auto driver.
  2. Ask HR whether the company runs shift transport or a shuttle from the metro; some do, many do not.
  3. Work out lunch: canteen, a tiffin service or eating at HMT Junction.
  4. If you are in an SEZ unit, carry your ID every day – SEZ gates usually check.
  5. Sort out your room, bank account and SIM in the same week; our first-week checklist runs through the order.
