One road, several names
There is no single signboard that says “Medical College Road” from end to end. In practice the route is: HMT Junction on NH 544 → HMT Road past the HMT factory and HMT Colony → the Kinfra–Medical College Road to the medical college gate. Bus boards and autos understand “Medical College”; map apps may show “HMT Road”, “Kinfra Road” or the Kinfra–Medical College Road. If you give directions, name a landmark, not just the road.

The NAD Road link
NAD Road runs through the same northern part of Kalamassery, past Kalamassery railway station, towards the Naval Armament Depot and Aluva. That makes the corridor a rough triangle: highway at one corner, medical college at another, NAD Road at the third. The planned second phase of the Seaport–Airport Road is designed to start from HMT Road via NAD Junction; in October 2025 HMT land for the 2 km HMT–NAD section was reported handed over to the state road corporation. Until it is built, expect construction and diversions.
Who lives and works along the corridor
Few roads in Kalamassery have such a mixed population. MBBS and nursing students, house surgeons and hospital staff keep odd hours around the medical college. Law students at NUALS keep academic timetables. KINFRA brings engineers and start-up teams, and the new logistics park will add warehouse and transport staff working in shifts. Patients’ relatives come and go from across central Kerala. The result is steady demand for monthly rooms, tea shops that open early, and autos at all hours – but also crowding at the hospital gate at visiting times.
If you are a male nurse or hospital staff member, or a student at one of these institutions, think about which end of the corridor you need daily before choosing where to live.
Practical notes for daily users
- Hospital traffic – the stretch near the medical college gets ambulances and visitors all day; keep the gate clear.
- Getting there – the corridor is not on the metro. Combine Kalamassery metro or the railway station with a bus, auto or walk.
