Where the station is

The station stands on the elevated metro viaduct over NH 544 in Kalamassery town. Online listings place it near Premier Junction, the junction named after the old Premier Tyres factory (now Apollo Tyres) — see our Premier Junction guide for the background. North of it is Muttom (towards Aluva); south of it is Cochin University (towards Edappally).

Because the station sits over a busy highway, entrances are on both sides of the road. If you are being dropped by auto, tell the driver which side you want to avoid crossing the highway on foot.

Tickets, fares and timings

  • Fares: distance-based, roughly ₹10 for short hops up to about ₹60 for the longest trips. Short trips like Kalamassery–Edappally sit near the bottom of the range.
  • Tickets: you can buy QR tickets at the counter or machines, or use the Kochi1 card for regular travel. KMRL has also offered mobile ticketing; check its current app.
  • Timings: trains have generally run from about 6 am to about 10.30 pm, starting later on Sundays, with frequencies of roughly 7–9 minutes. KMRL extends hours for festivals and events — check before relying on the last train.

Fares, card offers and timings change. Treat the numbers above as a rough guide and check kochimetro.org or the station notice board for current figures.

Getting from the station to HMT, the Medical College and NAD Road

The metro follows the highway; much of Kalamassery does not. For the Medical College side, KMRL launched an air-conditioned electric Metro Connect feeder bus on the Kalamassery–Medical College route in January 2025, reported to run every 30 minutes from about 8.30 am to 7.30 pm with fares starting around ₹20. Routes and timings can be revised, so confirm at the station.

For HMT, NAD Road, Eloor or the industrial areas, people use private buses from the highway stops, an auto from the stand near the station, or their own scooter. Our bus guide and auto and taxi tips cover those last-mile choices.

Tips for daily users

  • A stored-value card saves queueing every morning; check whether a monthly trip pass suits your pattern.
  • Rush hours are calmer than city buses but trains towards Ernakulam fill up around office time.
  • In the monsoon, the walk from the station to your bus stop is where you get wet — keep an umbrella in your bag. See monsoon living tips.
  • The station has parking according to Wikipedia; ask about two-wheeler parking charges if you plan to ride to the metro.

Your first ride, step by step

  1. Check which side of NH 544 you are on and use the entrance on that side rather than crossing the highway at street level.
  2. Go up to the concourse and buy a QR ticket at the counter or machine, or tap your Kochi1 card at the gate.
  3. Look at the platform signs: trains to Aluva run north; trains to Thrippunithura run south through Edappally, Kaloor and MG Road.
  4. Keep the QR ticket or card handy — you need it again to exit.
  5. At your destination, check the exit signs for the side of the road you need; larger stations list nearby landmarks at each exit.

Stations on Kochi Metro have lifts and escalators, which helps if you are moving in with a suitcase or a bag of bedding. Large luggage rules can change, so if you are carrying something bulky such as a mattress or a cycle, ask the station staff first; KMRL has run schemes allowing bicycles on trains in the past.

When the metro is not the answer

The metro is fast for anything along the Aluva–Edappally–city axis, but less helpful for trips across it. Going from Kalamassery to Kakkanad or Infopark, for example, usually means road travel along the Seaport–Airport Road side; see Infopark commute from Kalamassery. Going to Eloor or the FACT side means crossing west, by bus or auto. For an overview of every option, start at getting around Kalamassery.
