Key facts
- Cochin University metro station is at CUSAT Junction on NH 544, between Kalamassery and Pathadipalam stations on Kochi Metro Line 1.
- The station opened to the public on 19 June 2017 with the first Aluva–Palarivattom section of Kochi Metro.
- Pathadipalam, the next station south, lies between Cochin University and Edappally.
- Cochin University station has two platforms and parking, according to Wikipedia.

Where it is
The station is on the metro viaduct over NH 544 at CUSAT Junction, the point where the road to the university leaves the highway. It is the stop after Kalamassery when travelling south and the stop before Pathadipalam and Edappally. The name on signs and tickets is Cochin University, though everyone calls it the CUSAT station.
The university campus itself is a short way off the highway rather than on top of it. New students sometimes expect to step off the train at a gate; in reality you walk, take an auto or catch a bus along the university road, depending on which department you need. Departments are spread out, so check yours on the campus map before the day.
Who uses this station
- CUSAT students, staff and research scholars — see our CUSAT stay guide.
- Candidates coming for exams, interviews or admission — read Coming to CUSAT for an exam or interview first.
- Residents of South Kalamassery and Thrikkakara heading to Edappally or the city — see the South Kalamassery guide.
- Shoppers going one or two stops south to Edappally for Lulu Mall.
CUSAT, Pathadipalam or Kalamassery: which to use?
The three stations are close together, so the right one depends on where your day starts and ends:
| If you are going to… | Usually easiest station | Why |
|---|---|---|
| CUSAT campus, University Road | Cochin University | Closest to the university turn-off |
| Kalamassery town, Premier Junction | Kalamassery | It is in the town itself |
| Edappally, Lulu Mall | Edappally (two stops south) | Walk from the station |
| Thrikkakara / Kakkanad side | Cochin University, then road | Road connections head east from this area — check routes locally |
For the station one stop north, read our Kalamassery metro station guide.
Exam days and admission days
On days when CUSAT holds big entrance exams, interviews or admissions, the station and the university road get much busier than usual. Leave more time than the map suggests, carry your hall ticket and ID in a waterproof cover, and do not count on finding an auto immediately at the station exit. If you are arriving from out of town the night before, the late-night arrival plan is worth reading.
Reaching the CUSAT station from elsewhere
- From Aluva railway station or bus stand: go to Aluva metro station and take any southbound train; Cochin University is a few stops after Kalamassery. See Aluva station to Kalamassery.
- From Ernakulam Junction or Town: take the metro north from Ernakulam South or Town Hall towards Aluva and get off at Cochin University. See Ernakulam stations to Kalamassery.
- From the airport: the feeder bus to Aluva metro, then the metro south. See Cochin airport to Kalamassery.
- From Kakkanad or Thrikkakara: by road; buses and autos come across to the university side. See the Thrikkakara guide.
Mistakes newcomers make here
- Getting off at Kalamassery instead of Cochin University because ’CUSAT is in Kalamassery’ — for the university road, Cochin University is the usual stop.
- Assuming the metro runs late after an evening event on campus. Check the last train and keep a fall-back plan.
- Crossing NH 544 on foot at a busy point instead of using the station’s entrances on each side.
- Leaving the walk to a department to the last minute on an exam morning. The campus is large; check your building in advance.
For CUSAT students thinking about a room off campus
Ashraf Gents Hostel on NAD Road, Kalamassery is one option for male students who want a monthly room near, but not on, the campus. It is a men-only hostel/PG for students, staff and working men. It is not beside the CUSAT station; residents usually combine a short bus, auto or scooter ride with the metro or road, so check your exact route to your department when you enquire.
The hostel’s photos on the home page show twin-sharing rooms with cots and mattresses, red-oxide floors, a balcony and a shared kitchen. The indicative rate from its public profile is about ₹2,000–3,000 per head per month, negotiable, with one month’s advance; call +91 90746 23855 to confirm. Ask about Wi-Fi, meals and entry timings on the call — they are not listed publicly.
