Key facts
- From 15 February 2026, KMRL said the last Kochi Metro services from the Aluva and Thrippunithura terminals leave at 11 pm; the end-to-end trip takes about 50 minutes.
- KMRL’s Metro Connect electric bus between Aluva metro station and Cochin airport launched in January 2025 with a last airport departure at 11 pm and a ₹80 fare.
- Cochin International Airport has a 24-hour prepaid taxi counter in the arrivals area.
- Most long-distance trains stop at Aluva or Ernakulam rather than Kalamassery.
- 112 is India’s single emergency number.

Before you travel: three calls and a screenshot
- Call the hostel and say exactly when you expect to arrive. Ask whether someone will be awake, how you get in, and which room is yours. Do this a day before and again when you land or your train leaves the previous big station.
- Screenshot the address and a map pin — “Ashraf Gents Hostel, NAD Rd, signal, Kalamassery” — so you can show a driver even without data.
- Charge your phone and carry a power bank. A dead phone at 1 am is the root of most bad arrival stories.
- Keep some cash in small notes as well as UPI, in case a network or payment app fails.
By air: Cochin International Airport
The airport is at Nedumbassery, north of Aluva. For a late arrival you have three realistic options:
- Prepaid taxi — the counter in the arrivals hall runs round the clock and charges a fixed fare, which you pay before you get in. This is the simplest choice after midnight. Tell the counter “Kalamassery, NAD Road” and keep the slip.
- App-based taxi — ride-hailing apps work in Kochi; check the pickup point rules at the airport and confirm the car number before you get in.
- Airport bus + metro — KMRL’s Metro Connect electric bus runs between the airport and Aluva metro station. At launch (January 2025) the last bus left the airport at 11 pm and the fare was ₹80. Only use this if it connects with a metro train to Kalamassery before the last service; otherwise you are at Aluva at midnight still needing a ride.

By train: Aluva or Ernakulam
Many long-distance trains from north India, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka stop at Aluva, which is on the Kalamassery side, or at Ernakulam Junction (South) or Ernakulam Town (North). Kalamassery’s own station mostly sees MEMU and passenger trains. If you have a choice, get off at Aluva — it is closer.
- Before 11 pm: walk to Aluva metro station and ride to Kalamassery or Cochin University, then take an auto for the last stretch. See Aluva station to Kalamassery.
- After the last metro: use the station’s prepaid auto or taxi arrangement if one is operating, or a ride-hailing app. Agree the fare or check the meter before you start.
- At Ernakulam: the distance is longer and late-night autos cost more. See Ernakulam stations to Kalamassery.
Trains into Kerala often run late. If yours is going to arrive hours after plan, tell the hostel. It is often better to wait in a well-lit station waiting room until early morning — the metro starts around 6 am — than to search for an auto on an empty road.
By bus
Interstate and long-distance buses usually stop at Aluva, Kalamassery on NH 544, Edappally or Vyttila, depending on the operator. Ask the conductor where exactly you will be dropped and note the nearest landmark. A drop on the highway at Kalamassery or Aluva is better than being carried on to Vyttila. See the bus guide.
The last kilometre
NAD Road is a local road, quieter than the highway — pleasant by day, but at night there are fewer autos waiting. From the metro or the highway, take an auto or taxi to the door rather than walking an unfamiliar stretch with luggage. Our auto and taxi tips cover meters and fares, and what is near the NAD Road signal helps you recognise landmarks.
- Sit in the back, share your live location with a friend or family member, and keep your bag with you.
- If a driver refuses the meter at night, agree the fare before you get in.
- In an emergency, call 112.
Where Ashraf Gents Hostel fits
Ashraf Gents Hostel is a boys’ hostel and PG for students, staff and working men at Ashraf house, NAD Road, at the signal in Kalamassery. Whether a late check-in is possible, and how entry works at night, is something to confirm on the call — +91 90746 23855 — before you book your ticket, not after you land.

The indicative rate from its public profile is about ₹2,000–3,000 per head per month, negotiable, with one month’s advance, confirmed on the call. If your first night is going to be very late, you might also plan to arrive early the next morning instead. After you are in, the first-week checklist takes over.
