Where Kochi RCC (CCRC) is in Kalamassery

Everyone from auto drivers to bus conductors understands ‘RCC’, ‘Kochi RCC’ or ‘Kalamassery RCC’, but the official name is the Cochin Cancer Research Centre (CCRC). It is on the campus of Government Medical College, Ernakulam, whose official address is HMT Road, HMT Colony, North Kalamassery, Kochi 683503. If you say ‘Medical College, Kalamassery’ you will reach the right gate; inside, follow the signboards or ask security for the CCRC block.

The campus lies north-east of NH 544, behind HMT and the KINFRA Hi-Tech Park. On the far side of the campus is the Manalimukku junction, on the road that continues towards the Naval Armament Depot and Aluva. If a driver takes you there, you have gone slightly past the main gate.

Do not confuse it with the Regional Cancer Centre (RCC) in Thiruvananthapuram. If you are booking a taxi or train ticket from outside Kerala, write ‘Cochin Cancer Research Centre, Medical College, Kalamassery’.

The last stretch: metro station to the CCRC

Most people use Kalamassery metro station and then go up to HMT Junction and along HMT Road past HMT, KINFRA and NUALS to the Medical College. The Kalamassery metro station guide shows the exits and where autos wait.

  • Bus: buses for the Medical College run along HMT Road; ask the conductor for ‘Medical College’. Some continue to Manalimukku and Aluva. See the bus routes guide.
  • Auto: the most practical choice for a patient after chemotherapy or a long scan day. Ask for the meter, and read our auto and taxi tips.
  • App cab: useful from the airport or late in the evening; set the pin on the Medical College campus, not on ‘RCC’, which can match the Thiruvananthapuram centre.

Landmarks to recognise on the way

  1. HMT Junction on NH 544 — the turn off the highway. Our HMT Junction guide describes it.
  2. HMT factory and HMT Colony — old industrial walls and quarters along the road.
  3. KINFRA Hi-Tech Park and NUALS — newer campuses on the same road.
  4. Medical College gate and bus terminal — your stop. The CCRC’s new multi-storey building is inside the campus.
  5. Manalimukku — if you reach this junction, the gate is behind you.

The Medical College Road guide goes through this stretch in more detail.

Practical tips for patients and families

  • Carry the referral letter, ID and every earlier report in one folder; first visits take longer.
  • Check OP days and timings on the official CCRC website or by phoning the hospital before travelling — they can change as departments move into the new building.
  • Eat before you leave if you are not fasting for a test; queues can be long.
  • If you are coming for weeks of treatment, plan accommodation early — see staying near the CCRC.

This page is about getting there, not medical advice. For questions about treatment, speak to the doctors at the centre.
